    Today, Wednesday, economic expert Diaa Al-Mohsen warned that Iraq is a hostage to the wheat-exporting countries, as it is a basic food source, while stressing that the country needs six million tons to accommodate the requirements of the Iraqi people.

    Al-Mohsen said in an interview with the Information Agency, that "the strategic storage of the wheat crop is sufficient for three months, but the Ministry of Commerce did not take into account the harvest period, which will continue within twenty to thirty days for harvest," noting that "the figures confirm that from 2.5 to 3 million tons of wheat. The wheat will be stored in the stores of the Ministry of Commerce, but the problem is, is this quantity sufficient for a full year?”
    He added, "Iraq needs 6 million tons, and we have no more than 3 million tons, so we hope that the Ministry of Agriculture, through the next agricultural plan, will increase the cultivated area first, and support farmers by providing basic supplies at subsidized prices so that the farmer can work and achieve Secondly, economic feasibility.
    The economic expert explained that “food security does not require importing goods and food from abroad, but rather it must be secured inside, and then it is possible to import other needs,” noting that “it is not possible for a race to be 6 million tons, 2 million to be grown, and 4 million tons to be imported from abroad.” .
