"He knows the country and its security institutions very well" .. Appointment of a new head of the European Union Mission in Iraq
Shafaq News/ The European Union mission in Iraq announced the appointment of "Andreas Vibari" as its new head, while the latter expressed his happiness and confirmed his knowledge of the country and its security institutions "well".
In a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, the mission said, "Andreas Vibari, a Swedish senior police officer, assumed on August 17-August his responsibilities in Baghdad as head of the European Union advisory mission in Iraq, which supports the reform of the civil security sector in the country at the invitation of the Iraqi authorities."
The statement indicated that Vibari "is the Chief Superintendent of the Swedish Police Authority, which represents the National Police in Sweden, which he joined in 1991. Malmo Police.
The statement emphasized that Vibari, “at the international level has significant experience in the European Union’s joint civil, political, security and defense missions, having worked initially since 2014 2015 as Chief of Staff of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo, which supports key rule of law institutions, and then with the The European Union Advisory Council in Iraq, in which he held a senior position as Chief of Operations at the beginning of the mission from 2017 to 2018.
The statement quoted the new head of mission as saying, "I am very happy to return to Iraq, and I know the country and its security institutions, and I know how important the experts of the European Union Mission in Iraq and the local staff of the mission are," stressing "to cooperate with the European Union and international partners to achieve our common goal of: Moving forward towards a transparent and effective democratic exercise of power
The European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq was established in October 2017 and is based in Baghdad and has an office in Erbil, and its mandate was extended in April 2022 for another two years.
The mission's mandate includes providing strategic advice and expertise to the Iraqi authorities on civilian aspects of security sector reform, including associated strategy, and other national security priorities.
