    Economy News-Baghdad
The Ministry of Water Resources announced, on Monday, the imminent completion of a project to expand and deepen the nutrients of the marshes in Dhi Qar governorate, which aims to sustain water there to prevent the migration of its residents due to water scarcity, while it intends to start a similar project next year, within the governorates of Basra and Maysan.
Hussein Ali Al-Kinani, director general of the restoration of marshes and wetlands in the ministry, said in a statement reported by the official newspaper, "The center has prepared a strategic plan to deepen and expand the nutrients and outlets of the marshes by converting them from streams to rivers with lengths of up to 20 kilometers, with the aim of water circulation and the sustainability of life in those areas. And preventing the migration of its residents, despite the drought that the country is going through for the fourth consecutive season.
Al-Kinani added, "The plan had already started within the Dhi Qar governorate during the month of September, in which the Hammar Marsh is fed from the right-hand outlets of the Euphrates River, and the central marsh is fed from the left-hand outlets, revealing that the project is nearing completion within Dhi Qar, while A similar project will be initiated within the governorates of Basra and Maysan during the next year 2023, using the scarce running water from the Euphrates River.
He pointed out that "the most important challenges facing the country are the lack of water revenues received due to the policies of the riparian countries, in addition to the sharp drop in rainfall rates for the fourth consecutive season."
