On Thursday, the vice president of Sumo Company, Ali Nizar, confirmed that the Karbala refinery has unique production units in the region.
Nizar said at an economic symposium in Baghdad, "The new Karbala refinery will fill a large part of the local need for oil derivatives, and then enable Iraq to enter into larger conversion projects to create a new material resource by exporting these products."
He added, "The refinery is one of the most complex refineries in terms of composition, complexity, design, and formation at the level of Iraq and the region," noting that "the refinery has production units that not all refineries in the region possess, and one of these units works to produce and improve the product of improved gasoline, with a very high quality, which is It is present in only six refineries in the world.
He pointed out that "the change of governments, oil ministers, visions, and the absence of plans affected the duration of the completion of the refinery and the provision of funds allocated for its construction, which was supposed to operate at its maximum refining capacity three years ago."
He pointed out that "on 12/17, the refinery will start filtering crude oil with the cooperation of a consortium of Korean companies, the Oil Projects Company and the Central Refineries Company."
