    Economy News - Follow-up
The Karbala refinery management pledged to gradually resume the operation of the operating units after the completion of maintenance work.
Ali Al-Mashkoor, a member of the Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee in the House of Representatives, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah", followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "the Karbala refinery witnessed a halt in maintenance work, which led to a 40 percent cut in the supply of kerosene, which is necessary for the operation of power plants and generators, in addition to the operation of several types of vehicles."
Al-Mashkoor explained that "the government was forced to compensate for the shortage in kerosene and transfer the available amount to power plants, as it is the most important in terms of serving citizens, stressing the restoration of a large part of it and equipping fuel filling stations and restoring things to their former state."
In the same context, the media director of Karbala refinery, Ghaith Ali, stated that "the refinery has reached its final stages of operation, after maintenance, and the units will be restored sequentially."
He stressed that "operation requires time for all units to be completed and for materials to be produced finally and at their maximum capacity," noting that "the shutdown in the refinery is part of a programmed plan for maintenance purposes according to the original approvals and prior coordination with the relevant authorities."
Ali ruled out all rumors about the refinery regarding other reasons for the shutdown, noting that it is "inaccurate information and was not obtained from official sources."
