    The Ministry of Oil stated that the Karbala refinery, which is currently operating on an experimental basis, produces an amount of 72,000 cubic meters per hour of hydrogen, which is more than what the Dora and Baiji refineries together produce of gas.
    An official source in the ministry said in a statement to the official newspaper, Al-Sabah, that the hydrogen production units located in the Karbala refinery, which are characterized by very high production capabilities, require a high level of temperature in terms of operation and maintenance to prevent disasters from occurring and to provide the required gas inside and outside the refinery. Dora and Baiji refineries for hydrogen production do not exceed four thousand cubic meters per hour.
    Hydrogen is used to power the internal combustion engines of cars and vehicles, in addition to fuel cells to produce electric current. Hydrogen is also used as a fuel for specialized and high-tech engines.
    And the source indicated that “the refinery has reached the stage of trial operation by starting to enter crude oil into the first unit, which is air distillation, and usually witnessing trial operation of refineries, correction, maintenance, or globalization, some things that require modification according to what appears during this period, indicating that the plan is a change.” It will advance towards entering the vacuum distillation unit, then the hydrogenation units, hydrogen production, and the division of gasoline by the end of March next year, in the absence of any problems.”
    He stated that "the work is under the management of the Korean consortium that established the refinery, with the cooperation of the Oil Projects Company and the Central Refineries Company."
