    Baghdad - people
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani announced, on Wednesday, that his visit to the UAE confirms Iraq's sincere desire to continue and develop trade and economic cooperation and attract investments in various sectors, including renewable energy, port management and logistics centers.

Al-Sudani indicated in an article published by the Emirati newspaper Al-Ittihad, followed by "Nas", (February 8, 2023), that "the Emirati experience is considered one of the pioneering experiences in the world to build the country, and it is possible to benefit from their deep experiences to build Iraq."

He added, "For example, the leadership of the UAE in managing giant ports may be a nucleus for participating in the management of the large port of Faw, which Iraq seeks to be one of the largest shipping ports in the world as a strategic project linking the East with Europe through Iraq."

Below is the text of the article:

I am reminded of the words of the late Sheikh Zayed when he said: “The homeland is waiting for a lot from us and the people are looking forward to our deeds.” The phrase of my brother, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, appears to us: “Our Iraq is dear to our hearts.” These are not only thoughts, but a fact with which we would like to start our visit to The United Arab Emirates in search of a sustainable partnership for the benefit of our two brotherly countries and peoples.

A few weeks ago, Iraq was able to organize the Gulf Cup championship with unparalleled success for the first time after an absence of four decades, and we saw how the Emirati and Gulf citizen entered Basra and our people opened their doors and homes to their brothers and told them with full mouth, “An eye for covering and an eye for a mattress.” Indeed, with this authentic spirit Baghdad emphasized its pioneering role in building balanced relations and assuming its historical role as a major player in the region.

Brotherly relations deepen in times of adversity, and we do not forget the UAE’s diplomatic role in supporting Iraq, its participation in the war against ISIS, and its effective contribution to the restoration of destroyed areas, for example, the rebuilding of the Al-Nuri Mosque and its Al-Hadba minaret in the city of Mosul, as this historical mosque has A great place in the hearts of Iraqis.

We firmly believe that the sustainable relationship between the countries of the region and its stability comes from linking the common interests between these countries through economic cooperation and building development projects to create job opportunities and benefit from the human and natural energy available in our countries.

Our discussions with our brothers in the Emirates will touch on the exchange of experiences in various fields, especially in light of the keenness of the countries of the Gulf region to enhance cooperation for integration through industrial, agricultural and commercial projects.

The UAE is one of Iraq's most prominent trading partners, with the volume of trade exchange between the two countries exceeding $16 billion, the majority of which is concentrated in oil derivatives and electrical and technological devices. We have an interest in strengthening this trade partnership to serve the two countries.

This visit is an affirmation of Iraq's sincere desire to continue and develop trade and economic cooperation and attract investments in various sectors, including renewable energy, port management and logistics centers, as the UAE experience is considered one of the leading experiences in the world to build the country, so we can benefit from their deep experiences to build Iraq, and on For example, the leadership of the UAE in the management of giant ports may be a nucleus for participating in the management of the large port of Faw, which Iraq seeks to be one of the largest shipping ports in the world as a strategic project linking the East with Europe through Iraq.

We will also discuss with my brother, the President of the Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the recent political and diplomatic developments in the region and the positive results of the (Baghdad Summit 2), which was hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which focused largely on supporting Iraq in its endeavors to lay the foundations for regional stability and economic growth. By empowering it with expertise, investments and vital electrical connectivity, which is consistent with the government's priorities and objectives to achieve development for the Iraqi people.

This visit also aims to confirm the Iraqi government's insistence on confronting corruption, which requires close cooperation with neighboring countries and the exchange of experiences in the areas of governance and legislation and the training of those entrusted with confronting corruption in the country, recovering funds and recovering wanted persons who may take safe havens from friendly countries.

We go to the sister emirates in the spirit of friendship, cooperation and brotherhood, and these are principles that Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the father, always urged and laid down their meanings in the UAE’s relations with its neighbors, and his children were satisfied with them and followed his path. building and strengthening it.
