    The Ministry of Commerce intends to create large marketing complexes similar to cooperative societies to support low-income people and poor families, while confirming that the items of the food basket will be secured for eight months.

    The ministry’s spokesman, Muhammad Hanoun, said in a statement to the official newspaper, followed by “Nass” (February 18, 2023), that the complexes include all basic commodities, as they are sold at cost, including meat, chicken, milk, zero flour, and cheese.  
      
    Hanoun indicated that a study is being prepared with participation contracts, exchange contracts, or obtaining sums of money from the Central Bank or banks to develop and reactivate central markets and marketing centers during the coming days to provide citizens with foodstuffs.  
      
    He added that the ministry continues to deliver and distribute food baskets through approximately 57,000 agents, in order to secure them during the coming weeks and before the month of Ramadan, in cooperation with the private sector as part of a prior plan in this regard.  
      
    Hanoun pointed to securing the items of the basket for the next eight months, with the continuation of contracts and imports of foodstuffs and their delivery to stores.  
      
    He added that the ministry worked to add the displaced by distributing the second food basket to them to relieve their burdens, and organizing campaigns for mobile monitoring teams to control prices in the markets and support the poor, as well as following up on the distribution of the items of the food basket and flour to families covered by social care and those with limited income.  
      
    He referred to the direct distribution of the second meal of the items of the food basket among all citizens covered by the supply system and according to the marketing plan for preparation, while continuing to sell flour (Das) and French (Duvelac) milk by direct selling to citizens at competitive prices through sales centers in Baghdad and the provinces, as well as selling Liquid milk, table eggs and chicken meat.
