Shafaq News/ The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani confirmed, on Wednesday, that the failure to implement the unified treasury account has caused many cases of corruption, most notably the "theft of the century", warning that the continuation of the current situation makes the state uninformed of its balances and accounts.

Al-Sudani's media office stated, in a statement received by Shafaq News agency, that the Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the Salaries Localization Committee and the unified treasury account, in the presence of the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, the Minister of Finance, advisors to the Prime Minister, the general managers of Al-Rafidain, Al-Rasheed and Al-Iraqi banks for trade, and the representative of the Federal Office of Financial Supervision.
During the meeting, Al-Sudani listened to a briefing by the Minister of Finance on the ministry's procedures regarding the unified public treasury system, the progress of the process of nationalizing the salaries of state employees, and the procedures related to the application of the electronic payment points (POS) system.
Al-Sudani stressed that the delay in implementing the unified treasury account over the past years has caused many cases of corruption and abuse of public money, the latest of which was the crime of stealing tax guarantee funds, the "theft of the century."
And he stressed the need to address the matter by applying the unified treasury system to reduce corruption, indicating that the continuation of the current situation makes the state not aware of the amount of its assets and accounts or the number of its employees.
The Prime Minister considered that "anyone who works to obstruct this project is considered a contributor to covering up corruption."
Al-Sudani directed to speed up the preparation of new standards, including the largest number of electronic payment companies, which number about 16, and to contract with companies that provide better services at lower costs.
And he instructed the formation of a committee of representatives of ministries, governorates and government banks, to install electronic payment points (POS), in all institutions, and to seek the help of international experiences and foreign expertise; To support the project and encourage citizens to adopt it and deal financially through it.
