Today, Thursday, the head of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, stressed the need to increase investment spending in the budget, considering that the increase in operating numbers puts us in the “prohibited” category, as he put it.
Al-Atwani told (Baghdad Today) that "the convergence between the operational and investment budget in terms of numbers will allow us to have relative prosperity in terms of developing the economy through increasing investment amounts," adding, "But if the current budget remains 75% of it is an operational budget, this puts us in front of An important issue, which is the need to reconsider from the government by increasing development and supporting the private sector, and these are all matters that must be taken into consideration.
Parliament completed the second reading of the draft budget law for the current year and is awaiting its enactment in the coming period, amid continuing disagreements, observations and objections to the large operational side of the budget and the magnitude of the deficit.
