President Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid affirmed, on Saturday, that the government is empowered to pass a law to prevent cases of violence against women.
In his speech during a celebration on the occasion of the 15th session of the Islamic Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the President of the Republic said, "The necessity of securing all rights for women, and foremost among them is the keenness to prevent violence against women in all its forms and means."
He continued by saying: "We believe that success in this noble mission is a success for the man and for the woman, and a success for the cohesion of the family, and thus a success for society in general to preserve human, religious and civilized values, based on equality, preserving rights and promoting human dignity."
He added, "Working towards legislation that preserves rights and prevents violence against women is an important prelude that matures by activating the law and its rule, so that the state, through its various institutions, is responsible for protecting human dignity and ending violence as a savage and uncivilized means."
He pointed out that "the force of law and the power of the judicial and governmental authority empowered to enforce the law is the primary means of deterring cases of violence, then comes the important role of community education, which helps in introducing society to religious, civilized and legal rights that provide the right for everyone to live in safety, dignity and justice."
The President of the Republic concluded his speech, saying: "In fact, no one is better than a woman, a mother, sister, wife and daughter, if we preserve her rights and work to respect her dignity, and I hope that we will all work through various means in order to restore the honorable roles of women."
