On Saturday, the representative of the coordination framework, Muhammad al-Baldawi, revealed new details about the candidate for the presidency of the House of Representatives to succeed the ousted Muhammad al-Halbousi.
Al-Baldawi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, “The Sunni political forces have not yet resolved the issue of reducing the number of candidates for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives despite giving the coordination framework forces a period of three days, which will end this evening.”
He added, "The Sunni political forces agreed to sit down, but they did not agree to choose one or two people to compete for the position of Speaker of Parliament."
Al-Baldawi pointed out, “The coordinating framework forces are the largest and most numerous bloc that decides the matter if any extraordinary session is held to choose the Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
He pointed out, "The period granted by the coordination framework is not out of embarrassment to the political forces, but in order to expedite the position of Speaker of Parliament not to be left vacant."
Disagreements are escalating between Sunni political forces regarding the issue of choosing a replacement for the Speaker of the House of Representatives, amid many fears of a repeat of the scenario of domination and dictatorship practiced by Muhammad al-Halbousi.
