    Hussein Falih:
The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed the government’s interest in the water file, pointing out that it pushed the file to be sovereign and not technical or diplomatic, while it announced the implementation of the marshna system and the adoption of modern irrigation to reduce waste. Watercolor.
Ministry spokesman Khaled Shamal said in an interview: The current government, headed by the Prime Minister, pays great attention to the water file because it affects the lives of citizens, as it has pushed this file to be a sovereign file and not just a technical or diplomatic one, and has strengthened the Iraqi negotiating team with professional and national figures to obtain water quotas. From neighboring countries.
He added: There will be realistic steps towards Iraq's water quotas in the near future, especially after the Prime Minister's recent visits to Iran and Turkey. Stressing that the four scarce years that struck Iraq previously led to a decrease in the strategic reserve, making it the lowest reserve in the history of the Iraqi state.
He pointed out: The Ministry of Water Resources, with the support of the Prime Minister, worked to avoid the crisis by implementing a strict and resolute distribution system in the governorates, in addition to launching a campaign to eliminate abuses in coordination with the security forces. Pointing out: The water situation in Iraq is difficult and complex for three important reasons, the first of which is Iraq’s high dependence on water coming from outside Iraq, which constitutes 70% of total revenues, and the second is the climate changes that have caused the last four years to be scarce with little rainfall. The third is Iraq's delay in moving towards modern agriculture and advanced methods of opinion.
He stated: The Prime Minister emphasized the implementation of the marshalling system, through which the days of the week are divided right and left, meaning that the first three days of the week irrigate the agricultural areas located to the right of the river, and the fourth day is a rest to restore the river level, while the fifth, sixth, and seventh days are to the left. the other side. Pointing out that the system needs to follow up and monitor the fact that the irrigation canals in Iraq extend for thousands of kilometers.
He explained: Adopting modern irrigation falls within a global trend of adopting technology to reduce consumption and improve irrigation. Noting that the use of modern irrigation systems requires reconsidering agricultural policy, given that agriculture drains more than 80 percent of water revenues.
He pointed out: There is a need to reform the field irrigation system by adopting modern agricultural methods, including regulated irrigation and the use of sprinklers, in addition to drip irrigation. He stressed: The government is serious about relying on modern irrigation methods, as large financial allocations have been made within the tripartite budget to support this trend.
Earlier, the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab, presented positive indicators that suggest the occurrence of abundance and the achievement of good water storage during the new year.
Diab said in a press statement: “The water storage is low, but I reassure the citizens that we are currently working on new storage, and what we return to the Mosul Dam is more than what we release from the dam, which heralds the accumulation of additional storage in it, and this is very important to meet our needs for the coming summer.”
He added, “We are at the beginning of the season, which enhances our confidence in achieving good storage for the new year. Consumption in winter is less, and evaporation is very low. These factors give us the ability to achieve good storage to meet agricultural needs, drinking water, and all human needs during the coming summer. Therefore, I can assure you that the storage will be good.” Likewise, the first irrigation of the winter planting season was completed in more than the planned area.”
Dhiab continued, “The forecasts for the quantities of water in the basins of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers inside Turkey and in northern Iraq, and the amount of snow falling this year, are all more than last year and more than average, and when the snow melts, large quantities of water will be added from southeastern Turkey and northeastern Iraq via the Zab.” The highest, and there is also snow in Sulaymaniyah, coming to the Dukan Dam and then to the lower Zab.”
He noted, “This water will come to the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and next year will be abundant. We are following the amounts of snow that has fallen successively, and we have an idea about it and the amount of water produced in the event of the snow melting. All of this gives us an accurate future vision about the reality of the new water year that we will go through.”[/size]
