The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its solidarity with Japan, “the government and the people,” due to the earthquakes that struck their country and caused many victims.
The ministry’s media said in a statement, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its sincere condolences and solidarity with the government and people of Japan as a result of the earthquake that struck the center of the country yesterday, resulting in a number of victims and injuries and causing significant damage to buildings.”
He continued, "At a time when the ministry announces its support for friendly Japan, it extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery."
Strong earthquakes struck central Japan, causing tsunami waves, prompting the authorities to ask residents to leave the affected areas and
take refuge in the highlands. Central Japan was exposed to 155 earthquakes between 16:00 Monday and 09:00 Tuesday, and most of these earthquakes exceeded 3 degrees in magnitude. Residents felt six additional strong tremors on Tuesday morning.
Defense Minister Minoru Kihara announced that a thousand soldiers were preparing to head to the region, while 8,500 others were placed on alert. About twenty military aircraft were sent to assess the damage.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency warned of the possibility of tsunami waves reaching a height of five metres, but then reduced this forecast to three metres. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the risk of a tsunami had "significantly reduced."[/size]
