    Baghdad today - Kurdistan
    The Ministry of Finance in the Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed today, Thursday (February 1, 2024), that the central government is suffocating the region’s employees with the total amount of actual spending, while indicating that the employee lists are 90% clean and we have those who receive 4 salaries “in accordance with the law.”
    Finance Minister Awat Sheikh Janab said in a televised interview, followed by “Baghdad Today,” that “the lists of employees in the Kurdistan region are 90% clean,” noting that “the amount of 618 billion dinars allocated to the region does not meet half of the needs.”
    He pointed out that there are “those who receive four salaries in the region, but according to the law,” accusing the central government of “suffocating the region’s employees with the phrase actual spending.”
    He pointed out that “the general budget law posed problems for everyone, including the central government,” adding that there are “good intentions and consensus in Baghdad to solve the problem of salaries for the region’s employees.”
    Finance Minister Awat Sheikh Janab continued, “A number of artificial problems were behind the delay in sending the amount of 618 billion dinars to the region.”
    On a related level, a number of federal laws also allow combining salaries into two or three salaries for some groups, including the families of martyrs and political prisoners.
