    The Ministry of Transport has set the beginning of next October as the date for the completion of the five berth projects for the Grand Al-Faw Port and the construction of the submerged tunnel, while the economic entity operating the port will be announced during the next six months.  
    Director of the Ministry’s Media Office, Maytham Al-Safi, said in an interview with Al-Sabah, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that the current year has witnessed accelerated steps to complete all requirements for operating the Grand Al-Faw Port, and it is hoped that the concrete works for the submerged tunnel project will be completed during the month of next June, so that the excavation and immersion phase for examination will begin. Concrete blocks, while the work of floating concrete blocks will begin at the end of this year to form the submerged part of the tunnel.
    He pointed out that advanced rates have been achieved in the completion of the five port infrastructure projects, revealing that the beginning of October of this year will officially witness the complete completion of these projects, noting that his ministry is close to completing drawing up the operational policy for the port and determining the entity that will contract with it as a partner, to meet the requirements of the study. Feasibility, and it aspires for Al-Faw Port to be a transit station, and it is hoped that the issue will be resolved within the next six months.
    Al-Safi stated that work is currently continuing to establish a container terminal with a length of 2,000 meters and a width of 600 meters, with a capacity of one million containers annually in the first phase, in addition to implementing a highway between the ports of Al-Faw and Umm Qasr, with a length of 62 km, with two lanes to and from, each consisting of three lanes, passing through... The submerged tunnel under the Khor Al-Zubair navigation channel, 2400 meters long.
    In the same context, he stated that his ministry continues to receive delegations from all countries of the world, wishing to learn about the steps to complete the Al-Faw Grand Port project and participate in it, making the project a modern and global economic center for various commercial and economic activities.
