The head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the Federal Court is now replacing legislative authorities and issuing political decisions without taking into account respect for the entity of the Kurdistan region.
Barzani said during his meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine-Plasschaert, that “agreements are being violated in Iraq,” while stressing that any parliament that does not include other nationalities will be fragile and incomplete.
Barzani explained the reasons on which the Kurdistan Democratic Party's position was based, stressing that "the Federal Court has now replaced the legislative authorities and issues political decisions without taking into account respect for the entity of the Kurdistan Region."
He believed that "depriving the components of their representation in Parliament constitutes a major blow that harms the coexistence that the people of Kurdistan have fought for for decades. The rights of the components should be taken into consideration because they represent multiple nationalities and must feel their presence in Kurdistan. Any parliament does not include other nationalities." "It will be fragile and incomplete."
Barzani stressed the necessity of “holding elections, provided that they are elections that express the will of the people of Kurdistan, and are free, transparent, and far from external interference and pre-determined results.”
Barzani pointed out, “The Kurdistan Democratic Party was the one who established legitimacy and elections in the region, and it itself announced in 1991 from the city of Koysanjak the necessity of moving from the legitimacy of the revolution to legal legitimacy.”
He also shed light on the situation in Iraq and pointed out that “agreements are being violated in Iraq,” adding: “In order to form a new government in Iraq, we agreed with the political parties within the state administration coalition, and none of the points of this agreement were implemented.”
He continued: "In Baghdad, the livelihood of the people of Kurdistan was violated in violation of the constitution, and the salaries and livelihood of the citizens of Kurdistan were used as a weapon to destabilize the region and harass the people of Kurdistan."
Barzani stressed the need to "address the technical problems, with the aim of holding fair and transparent elections subject to the monitoring of the international community."
