    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi confirmed today, Thursday (April 4, 2024), that the Federal Court is the highest judicial body in Iraq and has the right to sue people who accuse and attack it .
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the Federal Court is respectable and represents all sects of the Iraqi people. It works in accordance with the Code of Procedure and works when there is a lawsuit, a plaintiff, and a defendant.”
He added, "The Penal Code, Article 226, amended this article, and anyone who attacks the judiciary can be imprisoned or fined, and there is a criminal penalty for anyone who attacks the judiciary."
He pointed out, "From a legal and constitutional standpoint, it is unacceptable to attack the Federal Court because it issues its decisions in the name of the people, and when it issues a law, it is in accordance with the law and evidence."
He stated that "the attack by a person who was a former speaker of parliament and represents a legislative authority is unacceptable, and the court has the right to prosecute people who accuse and attack it. The court in recent decisions was bold and stems from constitutional reality, and these attacks violate the law and the constitution."
Former Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi had made televised statements in which he referred to Iran and its arms as the ones behind his dismissal and removal from his position, even though the decision to dismiss him was issued by the Federal Court on charges of forgery.
