Parliamentary Work: Vote on the People with Disabilities Law soon

The Parliamentary Work and Social Affairs Committee and civil society organizations revealed that Law No. 38 of 2013 regarding people with disabilities and special needs is ready for voting and is on the Parliament’s agenda after Eid al-Fitr, while it indicated that the delay in the 2024 budget amendments prevented a new meal from being included in social protection.
Committee member, Amir Al-Mamouri, said in an interview with Al-Sabah: “The House of Representatives included the amendment to Law No. 38 of 2013 regarding people with disabilities and special needs in the last session on the agenda, but the lack of a quorum for the session prevented a vote on the law.” .
He added, "The law was transferred to the first session of the House of Representatives after Eid al-Fitr, and the law included important amendments. It will also include a financial component after the approval of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and a vote that the full-time employee's salary will be 250 thousand dinars instead of the previous amount of 160 thousand dinars, in addition to services and privileges." Others are provided by departments, institutions and ministries in accordance with the provisions of the law.”
Al-Mamouri revealed, “New segments will be included in social protection in 2024, which has been suspended since November of last year 2023 until now, and we are awaiting amendments to the 2024 budget, which will include a list of sequences for the seventh meal.”
