Within two months... investment opportunities to build 6 residential cities

The Ministry of Construction and Housing intends, within the next two months, to announce investment opportunities to establish new residential cities that include the construction of 180,000 housing units in six governorates.
Ministry spokesman Nabil Al-Saffar said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: The housing crisis in the country is one of the most important files included in the government’s ministerial curriculum, and is included under the provision of services to citizens, especially vulnerable groups and those with limited income, and by adopting an exceptional plan to solve the problem. This deep-rooted crisis has increased significantly in recent years as a result of population expansion.
He added that the government formed a work team headed by the Minister of Construction and Housing, Benjin Rekani, to develop the required policy and solutions. The ministry formed the New Cities Authority and its first priority was to determine the governorates’ need for housing units based on the statistics of the Ministry of Planning, which estimated the country’s need at three million, considering new cities the ideal solution to address the problem. The housing crisis, which requires continuing this approach for the next ten years to eliminate the housing crisis.
Al-Saffar pointed out that the next two months will witness the announcement of investment opportunities to establish six cities in the country to alleviate the housing crisis, including the construction of 180,000 housing units, noting that the cities that will be announced are the City of Peace in the Najaf Governorate, which includes 125,409 units, 20,000 of which will be implemented in the first phase. And Balad city in Salah al-Din, which includes five thousand and 956 units.
He continued that the cities will also include Al-Majjar Al-Kabir in Maysan, which will include 8,500 units, in addition to the city of Ur in Dhi Qar, which will include 24,800 units, along with the city of Warka in Al-Muthanna, which will include 1,500 units, and Al-Mutanabbi city in Wasit, which will contain 70,000 units. 12,000 will be implemented. One unit as a first stage.
He explained that his ministry is coordinating with the governorates, the Directorate of General Municipalities, the Directorate of Urban Planning, and the real estate registration departments, to choose sites for the establishment of residential cities, not complexes, in addition to seeking to bring developers and investors to establish these cities, according to partnership formulas that occur for the first time in the country.
