    Baghdad today - Sulaymaniyah
The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiyath Surji, complained today, Saturday (May 18, 2024), about the oppression of Sulaymaniyah and the lack of projects there compared to Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region.
Sorgi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “Sulaymaniyah is the most populated among the governorates of the Kurdistan region, and therefore projects must be distributed according to population proportions, but what is happening is the opposite.”
He added, "Sulaymaniyah suffers from a shortage of strategic and service projects, and most of the projects are directed towards Erbil," noting that "the regional government must adopt the principle of justice, transparency, and necessity in distributing projects. It is unreasonable to have streets of 150 and 170 meters in Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah still has limited streets." The largest street in it is only 60 meters long, excluding other projects.”
The Kurdistan region is experiencing ongoing disputes between Sulaymaniyah, which is the stronghold of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party, and Erbil, the capital of the region and the stronghold of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, while the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan expresses its objection to the way the region is governed by the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
