    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
MP for the State of Law Coalition, Mohammed Al-Shammari, ruled out, on Wednesday (July 10, 2024), resolving the issue of electing the Speaker of Parliament during the current legislative session, indicating that the scene is complicated and the Sunni House has not reached anything.
Al-Shammari said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "With the start of the new legislative session of the House of Representatives, there is a real difficulty in resolving the issue of electing the new Speaker of Parliament, as the scene is still very complex and there are no solutions or agreements up to this moment."
He added that "the acting Speaker of Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, is seeking to hand over the presidency of Parliament to a new elected president from the Sunni component, but the Sunni political forces have not yet agreed on anything regarding the election of the president, as the Sunni dispute is what is delaying the resolution of this position."
Yesterday, Tuesday, the Presidency of the House of Representatives called on the members of Parliament to resume their work, marking the beginning of the new legislative session, indicating that the date of the next session will be determined later to complete the legislative and oversight duties assigned to the House of Representatives.
On November 14, the Federal Court announced the termination of Mohammed al-Halbousi’s membership as deputy and speaker of parliament, while the Sunni blocs have not yet succeeded in securing the position due to disagreements and lack of consensus.
