The Najaf Police Command has begun the second phase of the campaign (Restricting Weapons to the State), which includes purchasing weapons from citizens.
The media official of the Najaf Police, Colonel Mufid Salem Al-Tahir, told Al-Sabah: The first phase, which began at the beginning of this year, included registering the names of citizens through the electronic portal (UR) and filling out a form with their personal information, in order to allocate a center for the citizen to hand over his weapon in light of the information contained in the form.
He pointed out that the strategy for implementing the "weapons inventory" is based on purchasing light and medium weapons from citizens, while keeping a piece of light weapons, a rifle or pistol, for each house that is licensed in accordance with the law.
Taher explained that the purchase process has started in the governorate as a second phase, with registration remaining open for those wishing to hand in their weapons, noting that the state has allocated about one billion dinars for each governorate to purchase weapons, warning that the registration period will end at the end of 2024, after which the security services will search homes, and in the event of an unlicensed weapon, the citizen will be subject to the law of possession of an unlicensed weapon.
