    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Member of Parliament Muhammad Al-Baldawi set, today, Thursday (August 15, 2024), the date for deciding the presidency of the House of Representatives, while indicating that the political forces in Parliament are in favor of deciding the position.
Al-Baldawi said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The Sunni political forces have reached convictions and a vision in order to proceed with a roadmap to decide the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and they were supposed to be present from the beginning in order to end this entitlement."
He added, "After the Arbaeen visit ends and the House of Representatives convenes, the issue of the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives will be decided in light of our readings of the developments in the situation by the Sunni forces that are trying to create an initial consensus to proceed with their options."
Al-Baldawi pointed out that "the political forces in the House of Representatives are in favor of the necessity of a decision, and we expect it to be soon, and we hope that the Sunni forces will overcome the points of disagreement and move towards options that will accelerate the decision on the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives."
On Tuesday evening (August 13, 2024), the Azm and Sovereignty Alliances announced their support for the nomination of MP Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani for the presidency of the House of Representatives.
The two alliances explained in a joint statement received by "Baghdad Today", that "in response to the efforts of the national forces from the Coordination Framework and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and for the purpose of resolving the problem of electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and in compliance with the decision of the Federal Court and to avoid falling into constitutional errors, we announce our support for the nomination of Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani for the Speaker of the House of Representatives, with what we know about his professionalism and wisdom."
Al-Azm and Al-Siyada affirmed their "adherence to the constitutional solutions and contexts regarding the election of the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament and the management of the political process, believing that this approach reflects the national vision to achieve stability and consensus and ensure the unity and sovereignty of Iraq."
The statement pointed out that "this nomination comes within the framework of our keenness to choose people with competence and experience to lead the state's supreme institutions, and we will continue our efforts to achieve the national interest and build a state of strong institutions based on the principle of the rule of law and justice."
