    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Member of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, Mukhtar Al-Moussawi, commented today, Thursday (September 5, 2024), on news that there was Saudi displeasure with the opening of a permanent office for the Ansar Allah group (Houthis) in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Al-Moussawi said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "There is no right for any country to object or interfere in matters related to Iraq's relations with other countries, political parties, and regional parties. This is a matter that concerns Iraq alone, and it is the one that draws up its foreign policy in dealing with any country or international or regional group."
He explained that "Iraq, at the same time, has a clear position regarding drawing up its foreign relations and adopting a position of neutrality and balance and preventing Iraq from being a ground for any regional or international conflicts or a starting point for any aggression against any country, and this position is fixed and declared."
Amidst the contradictory statements, media outlets confirm, quoting security sources and officials, that they deny the news that has been circulated about the Houthi group opening a headquarters in the Al-Jadriya neighborhood in Baghdad .
The Qatari newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed quoted a security source as saying, “The Yemeni Houthi group (Ansar Allah) opened a headquarters in Baghdad,” noting that “this came after local Iraqi media reported that the group opened what it described as a “representative office” in the Iraqi capital, days after a series of extensive activities by the group’s representative in Iraq, Abu Idris Al-Sharafi, and a number of the group’s members residing in Iraq since 2016.”
According to reports, the representative of the Houthi group in Iraq, Abu Idris Al-Sharafi, opened the headquarters located in one of the most important neighborhoods of Baghdad, close to the Green Zone and a number of palaces and headquarters of the leaders of the political forces and parties in Iraq .
While no security official has confirmed whether the headquarters will be opened or not, an advisor to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s government told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that it is “not an office or a representative office, as is being promoted, but rather a headquarters for the movement’s members, who were previously staying in a hotel in the capital, Baghdad.”
He added, "Iraq is keen that the group does not have any hostile activities against any country from Iraq," according to what he said .
