    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Political researcher Ahmed Al-Yasiri confirmed today, Thursday (September 5, 2024), that Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections will change Washington's policy towards Baghdad.
Al-Yasiri said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "Trump is known for his positions on Iran and the groups supported by it, whether political or armed, and the control of these parties over the current Iraqi government in all its aspects, which will push Trump to take a political and economic position against Iraq."
He added, "Trump will work in every possible way to reduce Iran's influence in Iraq, and Iraq may witness different events and crises after Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections, and there will be a clear change in Washington's policy towards Baghdad."
On Saturday (July 20, 2024), Professor of Political Science Safaa Hussein presented an extensive reading of the repercussions of Trump’s victory in the Iraqi scene, reviewing the most important Iraqi opportunities as well as Trump’s approach globally and how it will be reflected in Iraq .
Hussein said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "There is no disagreement that Trump's chances of returning to the White House are high, and even his rival party (the Democratic Party) acknowledges this, and all opinion polls point to this result ."
He added, "Trump deals with the international community as if he were the president of a commercial company, and his decisions are based on profit and loss paths, even Taiwan, which is Washington's closest ally, he asked it to pay money for American protection in a statement that shook global markets yesterday ."
He added, "Trump is going to impose taxes on Washington's allied countries that rely on military cover to confront challenges. He is adopting a policy that is the opposite of his Democratic rivals who seek to build bases and commercial interests in many countries, including Asia and the Middle East ."
He pointed out that "Trump and the Republicans realize that the world has changed and America is losing its economic and military position, and there are poles that have begun to emerge, including China and Russia, and this will enhance the creation of flexibility in the political and security dimensions of Iraq in the diversity of its opportunities to move to other alliances that meet its interests, especially since Baghdad, under the government of Al-Sudani, has begun to recover in the security dimension and has become a strong competitor in the regional dimensions in several files ."
He continued, "Trump will not clash with Iran or the Iraqi armed factions because he will not ignite a war in the Middle East, but rather he will be behind more positive changes for Iraq through his policy, which will give flexibility to the emergence of other axes and poles that can be dealt with economically and security-wise according to a vision that addresses the problems, especially the service problems in the country ."
Trump, Iran, the armed factions, and Iraq in general, have what can be described as an endless “revenge,” represented by the assassination of the commander of the Iranian Quds Force and former Chief of Staff of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. Looking at the course of “assassinating faction leaders” in Iraq, this behavior was repeated during the era of Trump and Biden as well, which suggests that American behavior in this file does not differ, whether it is ruled by Republicans or Democrats .
