Sources in the Iranian presidency revealed today, Sunday (September 8, 2024), that President Masoud Pezeshkian will head to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Wednesday of this week on an official visit, the first of its kind since he assumed the presidency last July.
The sources told Baghdad Today, "Bezeshkian will head to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, next Wednesday, on his first official visit."
She added, "Among the programs of this visit are holding bilateral meetings with senior Iraqi officials and signing cooperation documents and security memoranda."
It is noteworthy that the Iranian Ambassador, Muhammad Kazem Al-Sadiq, announced on Friday (September 6, 2024) that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will arrive in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, in the middle of this month .
Al-Sadiq said in press statements reported by Iranian media and followed by "Baghdad Today", that "security cooperation memoranda will be signed during the visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, in the middle of this month . "
He added, "Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is supposed to visit Baghdad this month, in response to an official invitation from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani ."
Al-Sadiq added, "Massoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to leave for Iraq before heading to New York to attend the UN General Assembly meeting ."
The Iranian ambassador to Baghdad indicated that, "President Pezeshkian will visit Basra and Erbil provinces if the conditions are available after visiting the holy Shiite shrines in Karbala, Najaf and Baghdad ."
Last July, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani extended an official invitation to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Iraq .
Pezeshkian had confirmed that his country pays great attention to Iraq, during a phone call with the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, as announced by official Iranian media at the beginning of last July .
