    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Baghdad Provincial Council stressed, today, Sunday (September 8, 2024), the necessity of following up on the work of private generators in the capital after they exploited citizens without real oversight.
Council member Abdul Najm Al-Amiri told Baghdad Today, "There is exploitation of citizens in the capital, Baghdad, by the owners of private generators. Despite the improvement in the electricity supply, the owners of these generators still take high wages, and this is due to the lack of real supervision over them and follow-up of their work."
Al-Amiri stressed that "the competent executive authorities, especially the security authorities, are required to tighten control measures and not be lenient with those who exploit citizens, as there are many complaints reaching us from different areas in the capital."
The head of the Oil and Gas Committee in the Baghdad Provincial Council, Safaa Al-Mashhadani, revealed, on Thursday (August 15, 2024), the date for ending the file of private generators in the capital .
Al-Mashhadani said in press statements, followed by "Baghdad Today", that "the Baghdad Provincial Council obtained the approval of the Council of Ministers to implement the electricity privatization experiment in the Mansour area and then the Al-Mamoun district, to then move to implement it in all areas of the capital successively ."
He added that "the council seeks to end the generators file by the end of this year 2024," noting that "the council had previously voted to set the generator pricing for the current months of August and next September at 8,000 dinars for the regular line, and 12,000 dinars for the gold line ."
Al-Mashhadani continued, "The local field teams affiliated with the council monitored 128 violations of these instructions, even though most generator owners receive a subsidized monthly fuel quota," stressing that "violators will be subject to strict penalties, in addition to stopping the kerosene quota and removing the generator and replacing it with a new one."
