Today, Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab Abdullah, chaired the special meeting to prepare for approving the upcoming winter agricultural plan, at the headquarters of the General Authority for Operating Irrigation and Drainage Projects.
A statement by the ministry, received by "Baghdad Today", stated that "during the meeting, the indicators of the winter agricultural plan for the upcoming season 2024-2025 were discussed, in light of the actual agricultural indicators for the previous season and the amount of storage achieved at the beginning of the season and expectations of water imports and water distributions for agricultural lands that will be included in the plan after its approval in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture."
The statement quoted the Minister of Resources as saying: "The ministry is obligated to secure the needs of agricultural lands included in the plan," stressing "the need for accuracy in calculating the cultivated areas."
He added, "The campaign to remove encroachments and use modern irrigation techniques contributed to delivering water to areas that had not previously reached it," pointing out "the importance of the Tharthar pumping station project and its role in enhancing the Euphrates River with water releases."
