Artawi Project: New energy ignites Iraq’s economy and extinguishes the fires of waste!

The Southern Gas Company announced the entry into force of the integrated gas development project in the Artawi field, while indicating that the integrated gas development in the Artawi field is a great opportunity to invest local hands in various specializations.
The Deputy Director of the Artawi Department, Kazem Wadi, said in a statement that “the young cadres, after the implementation of the integrated gas development project in the Artawi field, will work with companies that operate according to the global system, and thus the next generations will work and continue within the scope of global systems in the field of the oil and gas sector.”
Wadi added, “The cooperation between the South Gas Company and Total, the operator of the field, is carried out through multiple committees, and there is cooperation described as great by the federal government and the Ministry of Oil, in addition to the South Gas Company, in facilitating the tasks of the joint cooperation process to implement the project according to the approved plans and studies.” He explained that “these tasks are represented by the procedures for expropriating the land linked to several departments, the procedures for which are carried out in a legal and fundamental manner according to the controls that have reached advanced stages with regard to the expropriation of the lands on which gas plants and other complementary facilities are built.”
He stated that “work is underway to develop appropriate solutions regarding the intersection with companies, represented by the pipelines extending from the northern and southern Rumaila to the ports for export and other purposes, in addition to linking the dry gas pipelines with the transmission network, as well as the pipelines transporting cooking gas and others for transporting condensates,” noting that “the committees are continuing their work regarding the stage of land acquisition and obtaining approvals from the parties through which these pipelines pass.”
He pointed out that "after completing all procedures, the land will be prepared to receive the project's equipment," expressing his hope that "there will be work on the ground by next October."
For his part, Ali Al-Fahd, an economic expert, said, “The integrated gas development project in the Artawi field is one of the main projects in the energy sector in Iraq, and it has great importance on the economic and environmental levels,” noting that “when this project enters into force, it will have noticeable positive effects on the Iraqi economy.”
He added, "Iraq has been suffering for years from the problem of burning associated gas during oil extraction, which causes huge economic losses and environmental pollution. The Artawi project will collect associated gas and use it instead of burning it, which reduces waste and reduces carbon emissions."
He explained that "the project will provide large quantities of natural gas that can be used in generating electricity and in local industries, as it reduces the need to import gas and enhances Iraq's energy security."
Al-Fahd stressed that “developing gas fields will enable Iraq to export natural gas, which will open a new door for state revenues by diversifying sources of income and reducing dependence on oil exports alone.”
The economic expert continues, “The project will contribute to providing new job opportunities in the energy and infrastructure sectors, which will support economic development and enhance social stability in the region.”
The implementation of this project is considered a major step towards achieving sustainable development and better investment of natural resources in Iraq.
