The Iraqi National Security Adviser, Qasim al-Araji, said on Thursday that those coming from al-Hol camp will undergo a “psychological rehabilitation” program before being integrated into society.
Al-Araji added in a statement, “Those coming from Al-Hol camp were subjected to security checks by a specialized team, and they are being received and transferred to Al-Jadaa camp (in Mosul), and in this camp they are undergoing a program for psychological rehabilitation and integration into society.”
He explained that “Al-Jadaa camp is supervised by the Ministry of Migration and Displacement through a specialized team formed from most ministries, universities, and specialized professors.”
Al-Araji explained that “these people are evaluated after the end of the specified period and in coordination with local administrations, tribes, and civil society leaders, and they are returned to their previous areas, noting that their return to Iraq is voluntary within the voluntary return program.”
On Wednesday, Al-Araji said that the government is working on “the largest community integration process” for those who came from the Syrian Al-Hol camp.
This came during a conference held by the National Security Advisory Council to evaluate and update the Iraqi counter-terrorism strategy for the years (2012-2025), in coordination with the Counter-Terrorism Service and in cooperation with the European Union Mission in Iraq.
During the conference, Al-Araji confirmed, “All those coming from Al-Hol camp are subjected to psychological rehabilitation in Al-Jadaa camp, under the supervision of the Ministry of Migration and Displacement and all other agencies. More than 2,000 families have been returned to their original areas so far, and what remains are 600 families undergoing rehabilitation, in preparation for supporting them and giving them a chance at life again.”
Al-Araji added that Iraq today is free of terrorism and is working to sustain security and ensure its success. It is necessary to work according to the principle of citizenship, far from nationalism and sectarianism, because Iraq unites everyone and it is necessary to leave the feeling of marginalization and work according to the law and not escape punishment. The citizen must trust the state and its judicial institutions.
He pointed out that there are no first-class or second-class Iraqis, and that all Iraqis are equal, and that the government is strong and state institutions are strong and work to enhance societal cohesion.
Al-Araji also stressed the importance of “monitoring social media sites that spread division and poison among Iraqis and not allowing any party or entity to divide Iraqi society, as security was achieved by the pure blood of Iraqis and must be preserved.”
Yesterday, Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, called on some European countries to cooperate with his country by receiving their citizens detained in Al-Hol camp, which includes ISIS members in Syria.
Iraq is seeking to close the al-Hawl camp in Syria, which houses tens of thousands of wives and children of ISIS militants, as well as supporters of the extremist group, in order to reduce the risk of armed threats across the border with Syria.
It is noteworthy that Al-Hawl camp is located south of the Syrian city of Hasakah, and the majority of its residents are ISIS families. It is under the control and administration of the Syrian Democratic Forces, which is affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
