    Global Finance has named Iraqi central bank governor Ali Al Alak as the governor of the Middle East and Africa in 2017.
    "The governor of the Central Bank," Ali Mohsen Ismail Al-Aalak, "received the lowest rating from twenty-eight Arab and African countries," the report said.
    The report added that "Al-Aalak ranked last in the list of central bankers for the poor management of the Central Bank of Iraq and government and private banks, as well as not protect the independence of the bank in the face of political pressure."

    BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Central Bank of Iraq (CBE) announced on Saturday the imminent launch of a deposit insurance company after its establishment, pointing out that this company will constitute a major shift between depositors and banks.
    "We have completed the establishment of a deposit insurance company which will be launched very soon," said Al Ali at the Financial Services and Investment Conference held by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. "This company will constitute an important and fundamental shift between depositors and banks.
    He added that "the Central Bank began to oblige the government departments and institutions to settle salaries," stressing that "a number of ministries have completed this step and follow up its application in all ministries."
