    BAGHDAD (
Reuters) - Iraq's Foreign Ministry on Thursday called on US Ambassador to Baghdad Douglas Silliman to hand over a protest note to US President Donald Trump's decision to invade Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

"The State Department calls on the US ambassador to hand him a note of protest against the US president's decision on Jerusalem," ministry spokesman Ahmed Mahjoub said in a statement received by Alsumaria News.

On December 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump signed a resolution recognizing the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, pointing out that this step is in the interest of the United States and the peace efforts between Israelis and Palestinians.

On Thursday morning, the Iraqi government rejected US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and warned against the "serious consequences" of the resolution.
