     Follow-up / Sky Press:

The Chinese government announced on Sunday that 32 people, mostly Iranians, were missing after an Iranian tanker carrying Iranian oil operated by Iran's largest oil company collided after colliding with a Chinese cargo ship, causing its cargo to leak into the East China Sea.

"The Panama-registered tanker Sanchi collided with CF Crystal about 160 nautical miles off the coast near Shanghai on Saturday evening," the Transport Ministry said in a statement.

The carrier was en route from Iran to South Korea carrying 136,000 tons of condensate. This equates to just under 1 million barrels worth $ 60 million based on global crude oil prices.

"Santchi is floating and burning at the moment," the ministry said. "There is oil leaking and we are currently carrying out rescue efforts."

"Four rescue ships and three disembarking vessels were sent to the site at 9 am (0100 GMT)," she said. South Korea also sent a ship and helicopter to help.

The official CCTV station broadcast pictures of the tanker burning and rising from thick smoke

The ship tracking data for Reuters shows that Santchi was built in 2008 and is operated by Iran's national oil tanker company. Bright Shaping Limited is the registered owner of the tanker.

According to the data, the carrier was supposed to arrive in Daisan, South Korea, from Iran's Kharg Island on Sunday.

The government said the tanker collided with Hong Kong-registered CF Crystal, which carried 64,000 tons of grain from the United States to Guangdong Province in southern China.

The entire 21 CFR crew were rescued, all Chinese. The data show that the ship, built in 2011, was due to arrive on January 10.

The collision is the second of a ship operated by Iran's national oil tanker company in recent years when a giant Iranian tanker collided with a container ship in the Strait of Singapore in August 2016 without causing any casualties or pollution.
