A member of the Diyala provincial council, Najat al-Taei, revealed on Thursday that hundreds of displaced families in the camps refused to return to their restored homes.

"Hundreds of families in the camps of the displaced, whether in Baquba, Khanaqin or Clara, refuse to return to their liberated areas, despite the presence of their permits," Taie said in a press statement.

"There are several reasons behind the rejection," she said. "The families are in a difficult financial situation, and some families have secured new livelihoods for them in the camps."

She pointed out that "Nakak families are very poor see the survival of her security in terms of the presence of continuous humanitarian support to them and she is afraid of losing it if returned to their areas."

"The final resolution of the IDP file in Diyala depends mainly on the support of families in the reconstruction of their areas because many of them did not remain from their homes except the ruins," al-Taie said.
