In an astonishing statement that may indicate a broad global reliance on Israel's intelligence services, Economy Minister Eli Cohen (Kolano) claimed on Sunday that Israel had warned 30 countries around the world of specific terrorist schemes in 2017.
"You all heard last week that Australia had received a telephone call from the State of Israel [with specific warnings that terrorists] intended to blow up a plane," the minister said in a recording of his speech in Hebrew. In fact, there are 30 countries that received phone calls from Israel in 2017, where the State of Israel contacted them and told them: 'You have to know, there is planning here and there, be careful, there will be an attack.'
Cohen's remarks came during a law conference held at Tel Aviv University following reports that Israeli military intelligence succeeded in foiling an attempt to organize a "bombing" of a plane launched from Australia last year. Radio noted that the event was attended by a large number of attendees and was open to the public.

However, Environmental Protection Minister Zeev Elkin, a member of the security cabinet, quickly dismissed Cohen's claims.

In an interview with Army Radio after his publication of Cohen's record, Elkin questioned the credibility of the minister of economy in security affairs and said he was not aware of the figures Cohen referred to in his statement the day before.

"He is not a member of the Security Council and is not familiar with all the information provided by security and intelligence officials," Elkin said. I'm not sure where those numbers came from. "

In the same speech, Cohen also described the Iranian airliner's penetration of Israeli airspace two weeks ago as "an Iranian ambush" that, he said, was aimed at provoking Israel to respond and escalate.

Pointing out that Israel had already targeted targets in Syria after dropping the Iranian aircraft and losing an F-16, Cohen said that 11 people had been killed in the Israeli raids. (Army Radio reported that Lebanese media spoke of the figures at the time, saying that 12 Iranians had been killed in the Israeli raids, and Cohen had not clarified the nationality of the 11 alleged dead.

Last week, the Israeli army revealed that its 8200th Military Intelligence Unit foiled an attempt to organize a "bomb" to blow up a flight that left Australia last August.

This disclosure was an unusual step for the Israeli army, which is usually silent about the operations of the 8200 unit, which is similar to the US National Security Agency, and collects information from electronic communications, also referred to as "signal intelligence."

According to the Israeli army, Australian security forces arrested two men suspected of attempting to place a homemade explosive device on a plane belonging to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) union in Sydney in August.
One of the suspects, a 49-year-old man from Sydney, brought the device with him to Sydney airport on July 15 in a bag his brother was asked to take with him on board - without telling him that it contained explosives, Australian Federal Police Commissioner Michael Phelan at the time. But the bag did not reach the airport registration desk, where the man, according to Villan, left the airport with the bag, while his brother boarded the plane without her.
"This is one of the most complex schemes planned for Australian territory," he told reporters at the time. Without the great work of our intelligence agencies and the police in a very quick time, we would have faced a catastrophic event in the country. "
The bomb vehicles the two planned to use, including what he described as "military explosives", were sent to Sydney by a member of the Da'ash organization via airmail from Turkey. A commander in the organization told the men how to install the bomb, which was found by the police, according to Vilan.
According to Australian authorities, the plan failed, the suspects planned to use hydrogen sulfide gas. But were arrested before they were included in the plan.

He said there were no specific targets for the hydrogen sulfide attack, but pointed out that a member of the organization abroad had suggested to the men where to put the equipment in, as crowded places or on public transport.

Villan said the police did not inform the two planners until they received information from intelligence agencies on July 26. The suspects were arrested on July 29.

Israel's ingenuity in gathering intelligence and fighting terrorism is one of the central points on which the Jewish state relies in its efforts to form and maintain relations with foreign countries. Finished
