The Iraqi Ports Company announced on Monday that the crisis of the stacking of containers began in the northern port of Umm Qasr in the province of Basra .
The port witnessed six days ago, the accumulation of containers in large numbers because of "the lack of commitment of traders and customs agents to the procedures of border ports and the General Authority for Taxes and Customs ."
The spokesman of the company, Anmar al-Safi, in an interview with "Economy News", "The crisis of the accumulation of containers in the port of Umm Qasr, the North began to release, after the arrival of a letter from the Prime Minister to the General Authority for Customs," noting that " Containers, the container of 40 feet, of which 3 million dinars, and 20 feet of which 2 million dinars and the merchant who did not get an invoice or certificate of origin, of which 500 thousand dinars . "
He added that "the port witnessed yesterday the anchoring of eight vessels, one of these ships were carrying 9 thousand of live calves, and the second carried cooking oil, indicating that" this reflects the image of the return of normal life to the port, where the ships returned to trample as they were in the past " .
Al-Safi stressed that "the stack of containers was not delayed for a long time because the Secretariat General of the Council discussed the problem of congestion the first session and dealt with it quickly." He pointed out that "the reason for the accumulation is the lack of commitment of traders to the procedures of border ports and the General Authority for Taxes and Customs ."
