The Committee for the purchase of ships in the General Company for Maritime Transport, examined a number of Japanese ships in multiple ports for the purpose of buying a new ship added to the fleet of Iraqi shipping.
"The committee inspected large ships at international ports for the purpose of buying a new vessel for more than 35,000 tons," the company's director-general Abdulkarim al-Jabri was quoted as saying by Al-Iktissad News.
He added that "this committee was formed to buy new vessels to provide the fleet of the company working in international waters," stressing that "this was with the approval of the Economic Committee in the Council of Ministers and under the supervision of Minister of Transport Kazem Vinj Alhamami."
"The committee provides detailed reports on the ships to be purchased monthly under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and the Office of the Inspector General and the General Company for Maritime Transport."
The decision to purchase a new steamer with this cargo is an important economic precedent for the General Company for Maritime Transport, which is seeking to return its naval fleet again.
