The Iraqi Islamic Party announced Saturday its support for the nomination of current Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi for a second term at the head of the next government.
"We look at the alliance of victory led by the prime minister as a future project not for the person of Abadi," said party secretary general Iyad al-Samarrai in a statement.
He added: "I have already asked him (Abadi) to maintain the unity (alliance) victory as requested from us."
"The Alliance should be a center for gathering others. We are with him as long as he is united as a project for the future and we do not accept his disintegration. "
