On Friday, during its participation in the second ministerial conference on Belt and Road energy, organized by the National Energy Administration of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Oil affirmed Iraq's keenness to keep pace with global development in the transition towards clean and renewable energy and climate protection by reducing gas emissions and protecting the environment.
Adviser to the Ministry of Oil for Energy Affairs, Abdul-Baqi Hamza, said, in a speech he delivered on behalf of Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, that “Iraq emphasizes several executive axes in its future plans to shift to clean energy and fully invest in gas associated with field production operations and stop burning it through the implementation of projects.” Gathering new gas, leading to an invested gas capacity of 2.6 billion standard cubic feet in 2026 to be added to the quantities currently produced, as well as using the invested associated gas and converting it from gas to liquid (GTL), from gas to energy (GTP), and to hydrogen (-H2), adding that the great development in technology contributes to securing energy, eliminating emissions from oil production and consumption, and improving energy efficiency.”
He added that "Iraq's energy plan for 2030 included adding (12,000) gigawatts of renewable energy to the electric power network using solar energy, explaining that 60% of it was contracted to implement or under contract with international companies such as (French Total, UAE's Masdar, Norway's Sakatec and its partners). ) and other companies.
Hamza added that "the signing of the Paris Agreement was confirmed at the beginning of this year, while the ratification of the (ZRF-2030) initiative was confirmed in 2017."
