, Hakim Al-Zamili, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, confirmed the agreement with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to relaunch the salaries of nearly 2,000 beneficiaries whose entitlements the ministry suspended during the last period starting from this month, while indicating that poverty rates are increasing.
This came during an expanded meeting held in the House of Representatives building, with the advanced staff in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and in the presence of the representatives of the Muthanna Governorate, dignitaries and sheikhs of the governorate’s clans, to discuss about the cut off salaries, the increase of those covered, and the development of solutions and effective mechanisms on this issue.
During the meeting, Al-Zamili indicated that “it was agreed to send a team from the ministry to conduct a practical and accurate field survey and research process for the Muthanna governorate, in coordination with the governorate’s representatives in the House of Representatives, to increase the number of those covered by the social welfare salary, because Muthanna is unfortunately the poorest among the Iraqi governorates.”
The First Deputy Speaker of the Council called on the Ministry of Labor, to “present a clear and specific vision that includes the ministry’s needs to cover the respondents by the care team and those who will be discussed in the coming days,” noting that “the House of Representatives will obligate the government to provide sufficient financial allocations to include them.”
He noted that "poverty rates are rising and financial allocations do not reach all those who deserve it," describing this as a major corruption process that the council will investigate.
Al-Zamili called on the ministry to deal transparently in publishing the names of those eligible for social welfare in all governorates as a first step to eliminate corruption in this file and to keep humanitarian issues away from political conflicts and disagreements so that the allocations reach their beneficiaries, noting that the Council is determined during the next stage to amend the Social Welfare Law, and provide adequate financial allocations To increase those covered, while ensuring that they reach the eligible segments.
