Al-Kazemi: The concept of the Green Zone and the "metro" must change as one of the important projects in Baghdad
Shafaq News/ Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi stressed, on Wednesday, that the security-fortified Green Zone in the center of the capital, Baghdad, should return to its previous era, like the rest of the capital.
Al-Kazemi said in a speech during his visit today to the Baghdad Municipality building and his meeting with the advanced staff in the Secretariat, that "our visit today is to the Baghdad Municipality for the purpose of following up on the workflow directly, and we will be in direct contact with you in the coming period."
He added, "The concept of the Green Zone must change, and return to its previous era, with the original names to revive it."
Al-Kazemi directed, "The Secretariat is to launch hygiene campaigns, and we all have to work for a clean Baghdad," noting that "Baghdad is an ancient historical city and has a cultural face, some of its streets have lost their identity, and you must work to restore this identity."
Al-Kazemi stressed that "Baghdad today is experiencing great suffering and clear neglect, despite the government's support to advance the reality of the capital," expressing his regret that he sees "Baghdad in this state of crowding, and the impact of the absurd planning of influential people, which caused real estate prices to rise in certain areas of the city." ".
He stressed that "we must reorganize projects, and work to raise the manifestations that are not worthy of an ancient capital such as Baghdad," noting that "it is very shameful that citizens' transactions are completed only through the payment of bribes, and you are required to work on automating work in the secretariat departments. Baghdad to eradicate corruption and provide services faster and more.
The Prime Minister stated that "all the reports that were submitted by the Baghdad secretariat are incorrect when we check them. The work must be done honestly and the reports submitted must be accurate."
He strongly criticized the phenomenon of traffic jams in Baghdad, saying that it is "unacceptable, and there are some security controls that have become a means of obstruction."
He added, "I make daily rounds and I see that some of the checkpoints need the citizen an hour and a half to cross, so how will the citizen's trust in the law be?"
Al-Kazemi stressed that work must be done to activate traffic lights in the streets of Baghdad, to find a legal traffic organization and reduce crowds.
He expressed his regret that Al-Rasheed Street has turned into an industrial area. It is also unfortunate that no distinction is made between popular areas and other areas in Baghdad, and this matter needs to be reorganized.
Al-Kazemi also said, "We took a decision not to invest in Al-Rashid camp and turn it into public parks, and we also directed the protection of the remaining green spaces in Baghdad.
He also noted, "The Baghdad metro project is one of the important projects that the capital needs, and it must be started as soon as possible, as well as working on the river transport project, in a manner worthy of citizens by providing organized parking stations."
The Iraqi Prime Minister called on the residents of Baghdad to submit their complaints to the Prime Minister's Office, about the bargains and the payment of bribes they are exposed to, and we will open an investigation into them.
