On Sunday, the Ministry of Electricity announced its efforts to convert 90 government departments into smart buildings powered by solar energy, with the adoption of international grants .
The Director of Central Quality in the Ministry, Shaima Mazhar Sadiq, said in a statement to the official newspaper, which was followed by the independent, that "within the national initiative to support renewable energy and reduce emissions, and in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology, it seeks to transform 90 government departments into smart buildings powered by clean energy ."
She added that "there are international movements to obtain grants to support these projects, as well as obtaining the approval of the Prime Minister to include them in the state's general budget, as a contribution to reducing harmful emissions to the environment and relieving pressure on the national network ."
She pointed out that “the Department of Science and Technology in the Ministry of Education confirmed, through the extensive studies that it carried out, the possibility of converting the work of these buildings from electric energy to solar,” noting that “the high risks of environmental pollution and the imminent danger it poses to the lives of citizens, necessitated finding solutions. Urgent, represented by the launch of the national initiative to support renewable energy, which resulted in the formation of a team of more than 2,500 employees working with a high patriotic spirit to implement its set goals .
She also stated that “competent committees monitored many violations of government institutions that do not place electric meters in them, especially the ministries of defense and interior, in addition to education, which monitored the absence of six thousand schools within them of electric meters, which means that there is a monthly waste of six billion dinars, so converting schools to Smart buildings, will contribute significantly to reducing pressure on the national network .”
