Today, Wednesday, the Ministry of Commerce announced that it will distribute 12 portions of the food basket during the current year 2023.
The assistant general manager of the General Company for Foodstuff Trade in the ministry, Jassim Muhammad Al-Amiri, said in a press statement that: “The cabinet agreed to provide families with the Ramadan portion, which contains half (a kilo of starch, 5 kilos of zero flour, a layer of eggs and a kilo of noodles) and this variety belongs to the family.” Iraqi.
He added, "The food basket contains sugar, oil, pasta, rice, and legumes (lentils and chickpeas). It is possible to increase these items, while the social welfare share includes milk, tea, and zero flour, in addition to sugar and oil."
Regarding the number of rations that will be distributed, he explained, "The share of social welfare will be 12, and at least 10 rations for the food basket."
He stressed, "The ministry has taken several measures to control the rise in food prices and their impact on the citizen, including the food basket and the social welfare share, as well as the launch of a special share for the month of Ramadan."
He pointed out, "The importance of supporting the private sector by the state, and this sector cannot be active without providing support to it," noting that "the ministry's measures have contributed to reducing the burden on citizens and strengthened confidence in the government."
And the Council of Ministers, in its meeting on March 7, and on the occasion of the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, approved the proposal of the Ministry of Commerce regarding adding materials: (half a kilo of starch, (1) kg of noodles, (5) kg of zero flour, and a layer of table eggs) to the basket for the month of Ramadan for each family, based on the financial allocations for the year 2023.
