Al-Hamidawi told Al-Furat News that: "There is a priority for the housing sector in our plan, and Iraq now really needs more than 3 million housing units."
He also stressed that "the capital, Baghdad, alone needs one million housing units," announcing "a government approach towards the housing file in the country."
Today, Thursday, the office of the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani, announced the completion of the establishment of municipal institutions for the new cities.
On November 8, 2022, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of implementing new serviced cities that enjoy infrastructure according to an economic model and commitments between the government and the citizen, and not only distributing plots of land that lack services and produce distorted cities.
For his part, Minister of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works Bankin Rikani said that the coming months will witness a new movement in the housing file in the capital, Baghdad.
He pointed out that Iraq's annual need for housing units is approximately 250 thousand units according to the equation of dividing the average family by the annual increase in the number of the population, which is approximately one million and 250 thousand people.
