    [rtl]Baghdad - Iraq Today:

Kuwait called on Iraq to address the ruling issued by the Federal Supreme Court, which states that the agreement regulating maritime navigation in Khor Abdullah between the two countries is unconstitutional, while the head of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council stressed the importance of respecting and implementing the agreements signed with Kuwait. [/rtl]
[rtl]Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said in television statements, “We hope that the Iraqi government will take the necessary steps to address this matter” and respect Kuwait’s autonomy, the sanctity of its lands, and the agreement signed between the two countries. On September 4, the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court ruled that the law ratifying the Iraqi Parliament’s ratification of the agreement between the government of Iraq and the government of Kuwait regarding the regulation of maritime navigation in Khor Abdullah was unconstitutional.According to the court's decision, the rating of the agreement violated the provisions of the Iraqi Constitution, which stipulates that “the process of ratifying international treaties and agreements shall be regulated by a law enacted by a two-thirds majority of the members of the House of Representatives.” [/rtl]
[rtl]This agreement was signed in Baghdad in 2012, and ratified by the parliaments of the two countries in 2013. [/rtl]
[rtl]The Kuwaiti Foreign Minister affirmed his country's "strong" denunciation of this ruling, indicating that he came to New York for the sole purpose of informing the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, friendly countries, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations about the merits of the ruling issued by the Iraqi court.[/rtl]
