While the government is preparing to officially announce the launch of the “Baghdad Metro” project, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Transport Affairs, Nasser Al-Asadi, revealed that 5 million passengers will ride the “metro” daily, and while he confirmed the use of a train without a driver in this project, He noted that it consists of 64 stations covering all areas of Baghdad.
Al-Asadi told “Al-Sabah”: “Several previously proposed projects were collected in the (Baghdad Metro) project, which will cover an area of 85% of Baghdad,” noting that “the length of the project is 148 km, distributed among 64 stations, including 8 stations for transfer between tracks.” There will be 4 crossings between Karkh and Rusafa.”
He added, "The path will cover all places in Baghdad, including tourist areas and universities, as well as Islamic and Christian religious shrines, shopping centers, government ministries, relevant departments, hospitals, and all events located within the capital, Baghdad." He indicated that "there is a path that reaches Baghdad International Airport linked to four The eight routes make the traveler’s transportation process from any area in Baghdad to the airport easy and convenient.”
Al-Asadi explained, “The number of passengers (Baghdad Metro) is estimated at 5 million passengers daily, and this percentage is very large, as it is known that the percentage of passengers on trains does not exceed 20% of the city’s population, but the method of planning the project will cover an area greater than this.”
He warned that "the train will be of international standards without a driver, so that its safety rates will be very high. It will take the main streets in Baghdad, and the stations will be in the middle of the road, with a bridge covering both sides of the road."
