    Baghdad today - Diyala
Today, Friday (February 9, 2024), the Head of Parliament in the Diyala Provincial Council, Turki Jadaan, revealed some of the secrets of the council’s session yesterday, while indicating the proposal of a road map through the division of senior positions among the main components.
Jadaan told "Baghdad Today", "I received notification from both parties (referring to two alliances competing between them within the Diyala Council) about the existence of an agreement between the forces and blocs to elect the president of the council and his deputy and to complete the government cabinet," adding, "But the quorum was not complete." .
Jadaan added that he "decided to keep the session open pending the consensus of the political blocs," pointing out that "the citizens of Diyala are waiting for the formation of the local government and the political forces and blocs have a great responsibility towards the people in accelerating the resolution of consensus and proceeding to hold the decision session as soon as possible."
On a related level, an informed source confirmed to “Baghdad Today” that “an important meeting was held yesterday evening in Baghdad that dealt with the issue of forming the Diyala government and the difficulties that hinder the proceeding with holding the session,” pointing to “putting forward a road map by sharing senior positions among the components.” "And seek to determine the names of the candidates according to a consensual formula."
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, pointed out that “the issue of the presidency of the Diyala Council and his deputy has become almost settled, but the biggest disagreement is over who will assume the position of governor in light of the presence of parties in the coordination framework within Diyala that refuse to renew the mandate for the current governor, Muthanna Al-Tamimi, and call for entrusting the task to Another character from Badr, who achieved the highest results compared to the rest of the other lists.”
The Diyala Governorate Council adjourned its scheduled session yesterday, Thursday (February 8, 2024), due to the lack of a quorum for its holding.
An informed source told "Baghdad Today", "Because the quorum was not reached to hold the Diyala Council session in the presence of 8 members out of 15, it was adjourned."
The source added, "The session will remain open until a quorum is reached in order to proceed with the selection of the council president and his deputy in accordance with the legal framework," explaining that "disagreements in the last moments were the reason for the non-attendance of some members in order to proceed with completing the vote and finalizing the formation of the Diyala local government." ".
Last Monday, the Diyala Provincial Council announced the postponement of holding the second round of voting on the head of the Provincial Council due to the lack of a quorum, while leaving it open pending a decision.
