Today, Monday (February 26, 2024), an informed political source revealed the most prominent files that the Prime Minister of the Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, will discuss during his visit to the United States of America.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the visit will discuss security and military files, the most important of which is the presence of the international coalition on the territory of the region and Iraq in general."
He added, "The visit will discuss the protection of the territory of the region, coordination between the Peshmerga and the international coalition, and the continued American support for the Kurdish forces. The issue of unifying the Peshmerga, especially Forces 70 and Forces 80, into one institution will also be discussed, especially during the meeting with the US Secretary of State."
He pointed out that "the other side of the visit will focus on the differences between Baghdad and Erbil and the pressure exerted against Kurdistan and the attempt to reduce the region's powers."
The regional government expressed its rejection of the recent decisions of the Federal Supreme Court related to ruling unconstitutional and canceling some paragraphs of the Kurdistan Parliament elections law, as well as the localization of the salaries of employees in the region and paying their salaries directly from Baghdad, which the regional government considers “undermining” the region’s constitutional entity and authority.
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, arrived yesterday, Sunday, in the American capital, Washington, in response to an official invitation. During his visit, he is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with senior American officials in the White House, the State Department, and Congress.
