    Baghdad today - Erbil
Today, Friday (May 24, 2024), a political source revealed the latest developments regarding the postponement of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections after the region’s presidency officially addressed the Commission.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the Commission will officially request the postponement of the elections scheduled for the tenth of next June due to the lack of technical capabilities and lack of time."
He added that "the region's presidency will announce the postponement of the elections," noting that "the decision will most likely be issued next Sunday or Monday, and the new date will be the tenth of next October of the current year after extending the life of the commission for a period of 6 months."
Earlier, the Federal Supreme Court issued a state order to stop the implementation of the procedures of the Independent High Electoral Commission related to the Kurdistan elections and the approval of the names of the candidates, based on a lawsuit filed by the Prime Minister of the region, Masrour Barzani, because the commission approved the distribution of the number of seats for each of the region’s governorates based on The number of people entitled to vote, not the number of people, which is contrary to the Constitution, according to the lawsuit.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party previously announced its boycott of the Kurdistan Parliament elections scheduled to be held on June 10, in protest against the decisions of the Federal Court against the Kurdistan Elections Law, including abolishing the quota seats and reducing the number of seats in the regional parliament to only 100 seats.
